Ikebana International

Los Angeles Chapter #4 • August 2022 Newsletter

Dear Members,

As August commences, summer festivals are taking place all over the country. The COVID-19 crisis, which has entered its third year, has not shown any sign of ending, but let's spend our days caring for each other and taking precautions to not spread the virus.

I had the pleasure of attending Ikenobo Ikebana Los Angeles’s annual general meeting in July. Their four-day celebration includes demonstrations, a flower exhibition and workshops. Here is a photo of a Rikka arrangement by the Ikenobo Headquarters Special Visiting Professor Noritaka Noda.

Summer Ikebana

It's been a month since the new fiscal year has passed. In July, OCBC, LongBeach, Venice, etc. held Nikkei (Japanese American) summer festivals, and I hope everyone enjoyed them.

In August, the 80th Annual Nisei Week will also be held August 13 – 21, 2022 in Little Tokyo, Downtown Los Angeles. Make sure to stop by The Art of Ikebana Japanese Flower Arrangement by the Ikebana Teachers Association of Southern California at the JACCC Doizaki Gallery Japanese American Cultural & Community Center: 244 South San Pedro Street, Los Angeles, California.

On Sunday, August 28, 2022 the Bridge USA Summer Festival 2022 will be held at the Torrance Community Center, 3330 Civic Center Dr, Torrance, CA 90503 from 10am - 7pm. I hope you find the opportunity to enjoy both these events. If your community center has a summer festival not listed here, please let us know so we can inform our members.

Help Plan the Party

Lastly, this year marks Ikebana International Los Angeles Chapter #4 65th Anniversary. We would like to celebrate this occasion at the New Year’s Luncheon. We are seeking members to help plan the party. If you are interested, please let me know.

Let’s make the 2022 - 2023 season a memorable one, with all members supporting each other to continue to foster “friendship through flowers” for years to come.
