Meeting Location and Dates
For the February 14th meeting, we will have a repeat viewing of the video “Possibilities with Washi” with Laura Felt.
Laura Felt has travelled the world with Navy husband Bob for 31 years, they spent four years in Spain, four years in Japan, and two years in South Korea, as well as some wonderful stateside duty. While in Japan, she taught at a Japanese high school and for many years returned each summer for their English Camp. During these trips, she would stock up on washi paper, obi, and interesting Japanese antiques for ikebana and Ikenobo ginzas. Laura has studied Ikebana in Japan, South Korea, and the United States, joining the Blue Ridge Chapter of Ikenobo Ikebana Society in 2007, where she has served as Vice President since 2009. She has attained the level of professor. A member of the Asheville Ikebana International Chapter since
2009, she has given programs in washi paper crafts, obi decorations, and ikebana floral arrangements. She has also given programs to Ikebana International Chapters in Naples, Florida, Wilmington, North Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia.
For some, creating with washi paper might be challenging. But not so for Laura who can cover most anything with washi paper. Working with washi is easy when you follow Laura’s start-to- finish instructions for covering napkin rings, ornaments, and tissue boxes with washi paper.
